MY CUP RUNS OVER
SCRIPTURE: PSALM 23:5 (KJV)
“Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
There is a place in God where your testimony is no longer simply, “I survived.”
It becomes, “God has been good to me.”
David had known difficult seasons. He had faced enemies, rejection, uncertainty, and danger. Yet he could still declare:
“My cup runneth over.”
His confidence was not based on a life without challenges. His confidence was based on the presence and faithfulness of his Shepherd.
This is an important lesson.
Overflow does not mean you will never face difficulties.
Overflow means difficulty does not have the final word.
You can have tears and still have joy.
You can have challenges and still have peace.
You can be waiting for one answer while thanking God for ten things He has already done.
You can be in a process and still recognize His goodness.
Sometimes we become so focused on what is missing that we fail to notice what is already overflowing.
You have breath.
You have another opportunity.
You have gifts.
You have lessons from yesterday.
You have relationships that matter.
You have God’s Word.
You have access to prayer.
You have grace for today.
These are also expressions of His goodness.
James 1:17 says:
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.”
Never become so focused on the next blessing that you forget to appreciate the present one.
Gratitude protects your heart from the deception of perpetual dissatisfaction.
A grateful heart can see abundance even before everything becomes perfect.
David did not say, “My cup will run over someday.”
He said, “My cup runneth over.”
There was something he recognized in his present relationship with God.
The Shepherd was already caring for him.
The Shepherd was already leading him.
The Shepherd was already providing.
The Shepherd was already protecting.
The Shepherd was already preparing a table.
Psalm 23:5 says:
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.”
Notice that God prepared the table.
David did not have to fight everyone to prove himself.
He did not have to manufacture his own testimony.
God was able to prepare what David could not prepare for himself.
There will be moments in your life when God will open a door that your strength could never have opened.
He will create an opportunity you could not manufacture.
He will send help from a direction you did not expect.
He will give you wisdom when you do not know what to do.
He will give you peace when circumstances should have overwhelmed you.
And when that happens, remember the Shepherd.
Do not worship the overflow.
Worship the One who caused it.
The blessing is not your source.
The opportunity is not your source.
The business is not your source.
The job is not your source.
The person who helped you is not your ultimate source.
God is.
That understanding will keep you humble when your cup becomes full.
And there is another dimension to overflow: it is meant to flow.
If your cup runs over, somebody else should be able to experience something from your overflow.
Your encouragement can strengthen someone.
Your knowledge can help someone.
Your resources can bless someone.
Your testimony can give someone hope.
Your experience can become wisdom for another person.
Jesus said in Matthew 10:8:
“Freely ye have received, freely give.”
What God puts in you is not only for you.
Your overflow is part of your assignment.
So today, lift your cup.
Look at your life again.
Look beyond what has not happened.
Look at what God has already done.
Remember the prayers He answered.
Remember the doors He opened.
Remember the battles He brought you through.
Remember the times you thought you would not make it, but somehow grace carried you.
Then say with confidence:
“My cup runs over.”
Not because I have everything I want.
Not because every problem has disappeared.
But because my Shepherd is faithful.
His grace is sufficient.
His goodness is following me.
And His presence is with me.
My cup runs over.
CONFESSION
The Lord is my Shepherd, and I am surrounded by His goodness and mercy. My cup runs over with grace, peace, wisdom, strength, favor, provision, and purpose. I will not allow what I lack to blind me to what God has already given me. I am grateful for every blessing, every lesson, every opportunity, and every testimony. As God causes my cup to overflow, I will use my overflow to bless others and glorify His name. Amen.

PRAYER
Father, thank You for being my Shepherd.
Thank You for every way You have sustained me, provided for me, protected me, and carried me. Forgive me for the times I have focused so much on what I lack that I failed to recognize Your goodness.
Open my eyes to the blessings already surrounding me.
Let gratitude fill my heart. Let peace guard my mind. Let wisdom guide my decisions. Let Your grace continue to establish the work of my hands.
Cause my cup to overflow—not only with material provision, but with love, wisdom, strength, peace, favor, good works, and divine purpose.
And as You bless me, make me a blessing.
Let my life become evidence that Your goodness and mercy truly follow Your children.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
