THE BROOK THAT NEVER RUNS DRY

SCRIPTURE

John 7:38 (KJV)

“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

YOUR SOURCE IS IN GOD

In 1 Kings 17:4, God instructed Elijah, saying, “And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.”

Elijah’s provision came from a place God had appointed. The brook was not merely a source of water; it was evidence of God’s ability to sustain His servant in an unlikely season. Elijah did not have to understand every detail of God’s plan; he had to trust and obey His instructions.

However, the brook eventually dried up because there had been no rain (1 Kings 17:7). This reveals an important truth: God is the source; the brook is only a channel. When one channel changes, God’s ability to provide remains unchanged. The brook dried, but God’s faithfulness did not. He directed Elijah to another place of provision.

As a believer, your ultimate confidence must rest in God, not in a particular job, person, business, or opportunity. These may be channels through which He provides, but none of them is your ultimate source.

Through Christ, you have received the Holy Spirit, who strengthens, guides, and empowers you. Therefore, when circumstances change, refuse to surrender to fear. Return to God’s Word, follow His leading, and remain diligent in your responsibilities. He can give you wisdom to navigate transitions and recognise new opportunities.

The brook that never runs dry is the life of continual dependence on God. Your confidence is not that every channel will remain unchanged, but that the One who leads you remains faithful.

CONFESSION

The Lord is my source and sustainer. My confidence is in His unfailing faithfulness, not in changing circumstances. I receive wisdom to recognise His direction, courage to embrace necessary changes, and diligence to fulfil my responsibilities. The Holy Spirit guides and strengthens me, and my life bears fruit to the glory of God. Amen.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank You for being my unfailing source. Teach me to depend on You rather than on temporary channels of provision. Give me wisdom to recognise Your direction, courage to navigate changing seasons, and faith to obey Your Word. Let my life continually reflect Your faithfulness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

A channel may change, but God remains faithful. Keep your confidence in the Source, not merely in the means through which He provides.
