First Fruits: A Test of Obedience

Scripture:
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine” (Proverbs 3:9-10, NIV).

Message:
The principle of first fruits is not just about giving; it’s a powerful act of obedience and trust in God. It is an acknowledgment that everything you have comes from Him and a declaration of your faith in His ability to provide for your needs. When you give your first and best to God, you honor Him as your source and sustainer.

The act of presenting your first fruits is a test of obedience. It challenges you to trust God with what is most precious to you, even when it feels uncomfortable or inconvenient. Abraham’s willingness to offer Isaac as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:12-14) demonstrates the depth of obedience God desires. In return, God provided abundantly for Abraham and established a covenant of blessing with him.

First fruits remind us that God deserves the first and best of our time, resources, talents, and energy. It shifts our focus from earthly possessions to eternal priorities. When you honor God with your first fruits, He responds with blessings that overflow—not just materially, but spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Obedience in giving your first fruits reflects a heart that is surrendered to God. It opens the door for His divine provision, protection, and guidance in your life. Let your giving be an act of worship and a declaration of your trust in the One who owns it all.

Prayer:
Father, I thank You for being my provider and sustainer. Help me to honor You with my first fruits and trust in Your faithfulness. Teach me to walk in obedience, knowing that You bless and multiply what is given with a cheerful heart. May my life reflect my trust in You as my source. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
