Goodness and Mercy
Scripture:
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
— Psalm 23:6 (NKJV)
Message:
God’s goodness and mercy are two of the greatest assurances we have as His children. In Psalm 23, David confidently declares that these twin blessings — goodness and mercy — will follow him throughout his life. This means that wherever we go, God’s goodness and mercy are actively pursuing us, guiding, protecting, and sustaining us.
God’s goodness is His provision for our needs, His kindness in our lives, and His blessings that we experience daily. He is a good Father who cares deeply for us and provides for every area of our lives. On the other hand, His mercy speaks to His compassion, forgiveness, and unearned favor. Even when we fall short or make mistakes, His mercy is there to cover us and lead us back into right standing with Him.
Living with the awareness that goodness and mercy follow us means that we can face every day with confidence, knowing that God is with us. We are never alone or abandoned. In times of struggle, God’s goodness lifts us up, and in moments of failure, His mercy offers us grace. These attributes of God ensure that no matter what challenges we encounter, we are covered by His love and faithfulness.
When we reflect on this promise, it also reminds us to extend goodness and mercy to others, just as we have received them. As we walk in God’s love, let His goodness and mercy flow through us to those around us, so they too can experience the beauty of His presence.
Prayer:
Father, I thank You for Your goodness and mercy that follow me every day. Help me to trust in Your provision and walk in the assurance of Your grace. May I be a vessel of Your goodness and mercy to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
