Title: Don’t Be Too Familiar to Access Uncommon Grace
Scripture:
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” — Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
Message:
One of the greatest hindrances to accessing uncommon grace is becoming too familiar with God, His Word, and His presence. While God desires an intimate relationship with us, we must never allow that closeness to breed complacency or irreverence. Familiarity often leads to a casual approach to the things of God, making us lose the awe and reverence that open the door to uncommon grace.
In the Bible, we see examples of people who missed out on God’s blessings because they treated His presence or instructions too lightly. Consider the people of Nazareth, who were too familiar with Jesus’ earthly identity to see Him as the Messiah. As a result, Jesus could not perform many miracles there due to their lack of honor and faith (Mark 6:1-6). They missed the flow of God’s grace because they treated Him as “just another man.”
To access uncommon grace, we must always approach God with a heart full of reverence and awe. This means we value His Word, honor His presence, and live in a posture of humility and gratitude. Grace flows where God is revered. It is important to maintain an attitude of expectancy, knowing that God is always ready to do something new and extraordinary in our lives.
Moreover, we should guard against the temptation to treat spiritual practices, such as prayer, worship, or the study of God’s Word, as mere rituals. When we engage in these activities, we must do so with the awareness that we are communing with the Creator of the universe. This reverence allows us to access deeper dimensions of grace, favor, and spiritual insight.
Lastly, humility is essential. When we approach God with a humble heart, acknowledging that we can do nothing without Him, His grace abounds toward us. Humility keeps us dependent on God’s power rather than relying on our own strength.
Let us avoid becoming too familiar with God’s presence, Word, and power. Instead, let us approach Him daily with reverence, gratitude, and a deep sense of awe. It is through this posture that we access the uncommon grace that will enable us to walk in the fullness of His purpose and blessings.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to always approach You with reverence and awe. Remove any sense of complacency or familiarity in my heart that may hinder the flow of Your grace in my life. I desire to walk in uncommon grace, fully dependent on You. Teach me to honor You in all things, and may Your grace abound in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
